Description

After we read Herman Melville's Typee, based on his personal experiences among tattooed cannibals from the Marquesas Islands; after we have flipped through Ray Bradbury's Illustrated Man, where a body filled with drawings has the power to tell stories and predict the future; after having seen a documentary about Ötzi - the Tyrolean Iceman mummy, decorated with 61 tattoos; and after we had a good laugh with a Shin Chan's episode about a Yakuza boss painted from head to toe, we decided to make this notebook.

Two men and two women of different complexions, created after Albrecht Dürer's drawings, appear in various poses ready to be tattooed over the 48 pages notebook.

Author

Luís Leal Miranda

Synopsis

Language is a constantly changing process. For some reason, because of stubbornness, because we are boring, squares or simply because of the original ways we were shocked by the new, we are naturally averse to changes in the dictionary. Language changes, oral and written, and with it words. It hurts, but there's no harm in it. We need new words for new maladies, mundane needs and tasks that are complicated to explain. It was with this in mind that Luís Leal Miranda created the New Words New, a Tumblr / Facebook page, which was growing with these new words and this year gave shape to the "Dictionary of the Portuguese Language". Luís Leal Miranda did not stop there and created a publishing house along with La Lavandaria.

Livraria Plutão was born, with two books that provide more solutions for words, their meanings, letters and their symbology. They are almost objects of art, the work of Luís and Lavandaria goes beyond the mere resort of entertainment, fun or simple wordplay. Both in "New Contemporary Portuguese Alphabet" and "The Secret Alphabet Letters" there are solutions to problems, resources to think about what we say, think and see. And it's simple, like the best good things. And it is good to realize what a "lake of earth" is.

Synopsis

Box with 28 postcards

Born and raised in the Almanaque magazine, this Divertimento com Sinais Ortográficos arises from the "treasure chest" of the designer Sebastião Rodrigues, when Alexandre O'Neill opened his ear about the embarrassed silence of those typographic elements and recorded their voices. The result would be published in 1960, in the book Abandono Vigiado, with this dedication: "Sebastião Rodrigues, who had fun graphing this Divertimento (fun). To the composer and to the printers who collaborated in this book. "

Dreaming Leone

Alvaro Deprit

Synopsis

"In the 70s and 80s, the Tabernas desert near Almeria in Southern Spain became the Hollywood of Westerns. It was here that legendary filmmaker Sergio Leone made movies like Once Upon a Time in the WestFor a Fistful of DollarsFor a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, making the desert of Tabernas, with its landscapes, movies sets, and relatively low cost, a point of reference for Westerns.

In the 90s, filmmakers stopped making movies in Almeria mainly because the conditions were no longer affordable. The film sets were turned into fairgrounds or were abandoned, and the people who worked and lived around the cinema circuit, such as stuntmen and extras, dedicated themselves to doing Western performances to attract tourists.

The economic crisis in Spain has also affected this industry, which is yearning for the glory days of Western movies. In reality, the performances for tourists evoke an era that is disappearing, and the faces of the performers reveals their melancholy expectation of an end that has already been announced.

The melancholy does not only come from the end of a golden era in the cinema: In this big scenario it has become an imitation of an imitation. Man tries to find a certain dose of fiction but not for a well-known necessity to evade but because he needs to find out about «the possible» apart from the real, what has been left out or could have been (and has not). In a historical landmark of the crisis and limited horizons the imaginary Western is the projection of a possibility west of the west."
